Former Ohio State Football Star Gets DWI: Maurice Edward Clarett was born on October 29, 1983. Clarett was a star running back for the Ohio State University football team. Clarett helped lead OSU to the 2002 College National Championship. Clarett was unsuccessful in getting a court to overturn the NFL’s draft eligibility rules requiring a player to be out of high school for three years before such player was draft eligible.
Former Ohio State Football Star Gets DWI: Clarett received the USA Today Offensive High School Player of the year ans well as a Parade All-American. At OSU he rushed for over 1,200 yard and scored 18 touchdowns. Clarett scored the winning touchdown in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. Despite his success on the field, Clarett had problems at OSU. At different times Clarett was verbally abuse to OSU coaches and administrators and claimed to have been helped keep his grades up. In 2003 OSU suspended Clarett for filing a false police report. Around this time Clarett began to experience problems with drugs and alcohol. He battled depression and alcoholism all his adult life. Clarett’s downhill plunge ended with him going to prison for three and a half years. Upon his release in 2010 Clarett devoted himself to encouraging young people to avoid problems with drugs and alcohol.
Former Ohio State Football Star Gets DWI: In January, 2016 Clarett was stopped by the a State Police Officer. The police report notes that Clarett was changing lanes without signaling and was swerving between lanes. Due to his erratic driving another motorist called police and continued to follow Clarett until the police arrived. Once stopped Clarett declined to attempt field sobriety tests or a breath or blood test.
