Tesla Autopilot gets Speeding Ticket: Tesla sells an electric car and has entered into the world of self-driving automobiles.  During a recent test drive, a Model S Tesla was stopped by law enforcement near Miami, Florida for driving 75 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour zone.  The driver was not fined for the offense on Interstate 95.  The Tesla was operating on its autopilot which employs sensors to keep the vehicle safely in its lane and to allow the Tesla to pass other vehicles.

Tesla management said of the police stop:   ‘Today’s Autopilot features are designed to provide a hands-on experience to give drivers more confidence behind the wheel, increase their safety on the road, and make highway driving more enjoyable. Drivers can’t abdicate responsibility, we expect the driver to be present and prepared to take over at any time. ‘AutoSteer is designed to assist the driver on the road, requiring the driver to remain engaged and aware of the decisions the vehicle is making at all times.’

Tesla Autopilot gets Speeding Ticket:  Tesla’s position is probably the correct position to take since the driver will be held responsible for the activities of his vehicle since he or she has not abdicated complete control to the autopilot.  NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Safety Administration) has not stated its present position on the legality of self-driving cars.  It has signaled a belief that such cars promote safety.  #TeslaAutopilotGetsSpeedingTicket
